I have moved around to so many places throughout my life. This wonderful opportunity to encounter various neighborhoods has broadened my views on our topic of sprawl. Out of the many places, Ellicott City, Maryland is the epitome of a traditional neighborhood. In July 2008, CNN Money Magazine ranked Ellicott City the 8th best place to live in the United States. The downtown historic district of Ellicott City, often called “Old Ellicott City”, is a very popular destination including antiques shops, mouth-watering restaurants, eclectic boutique shops, coffee shops, a tea room and many historic sites such as the B& O Railroad Museum. All of these attractions are lined on Main Street (pictured below).
The town has very narrow roads, making it child-friendly. The town also includes multiple Bed and Breakfasts such as the Wayside Inn Bed and Breakfast (shown in the picture below).

Not one house is alike and each has their own unique architecture (examples below).
In conclusion, Ellicott City carries all of the aspects of a traditional neighborhood as defined in Suburban Nation.
