Kunstler's View on Suburbia

This video of Kunstler’s speech focuses on his position behind the detrimental effects of sprawl. Kunstler is an energetic speaker even adding some comical sense. As we discussed in class, some of his arguments are questionable and over-exaggerated. However, he makes valid points such as recommending walkable communities because spaces don’t match our inner lives. In his speech, Kunstler constantly mentions his argument of the disgust appearance of skyscrapers in suburban areas. Kunstler also mentions in his speech to rid cars because of the exhaust fume. However, due to how suburban areas are developed, it is very difficult to get around without a car. Public transportation like subways or buses are very common in cities or traditional neighborhoods but in most sprawled areas, it isn’t as common. All in all, behind all of his witty remarks, Kunstler has a strong basis in acknowledging the difficulties in the face of an energy scarce future.
